Introductory Vita Hugh Ridenour earned a master's degree in history from Western Family Biography 1795-1965, was selected in 1999 by the KentuckyHistorical Society as one of the ten best books published on Kentucky history in the previous four years. Mr. Ridenour has been published in both the Filson Club Quarterly and the Kentucky Historical Society Register. He was the 1999 recipient of the Kentucky Historical Society's Richard H. Collins Award for his article about a Confederate Civil War surgeon, the subject of his presentation today. The presentation is titled, A Surgeon's Tale: Life and Death in the Orphan Brigade
